CST is a gentle, noninvasive
method of evaluating the function of a physiological body arrangement
called the craniosacral system. It was developed b John E. Upledger,
DO, OMM. This manual therapy enhances the body's natural healing process
and has proven effective in treating a wide range of medical problems
associated with pain and dysfunction.
The CST
system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround
and protect the brain and spinal cord, extending from the bones of the
skull, face, and mouth(cranium), down to the sacrum or tailbone. CST encourages
the body's natural healing mechanisms to improve the functioning of the
central nervous system, and works to eliminate the negative effects of
stress and enhance health and resistance to disease.
A CST practioner uses a light touch, (about the weight of a nickel.), to assist the natural movement of fluid within the CST system, and to test for restrictions in various parts of the craniosacral system. It's about assisting the body to remove restrictions and allowing the system to correct itself. Sometimes evaluation alone will remove the restriction. CST usually lasts from 30 - 90 minutes. The practioner will place her fingers over specific points on your body to measure your cranial rhythmic pulse. She will then very lightly palpate your body and touch the bones in your skull, spine, neck and head. Intra-oral work is done with sterile gloves. During and after the session you may experience extreme relaxation, temperature changes throughout your body, increased energy, increased circulation and possibly immediate pain relief.
